a person-centred approach

Psychotherapy is a dynamic, engaging process where you and I will treat what’s painful for you.

The therapist-client relationship is powerful and critical for transformational and psychological change. My primary theoretical orientation is Rogerian person-centred therapy, meaning that we are highly attuned to the present moment and how that’s relating to the content we’re talking about. What we each think, feel, and experience from moment-to-moment helps us get closer and clearer to what’s being discussed, resulting in us being able to connect to what you’re struggling with in a new and healthy way.

By experiencing a strong therapeutic relationship, over time you become more confident in yourself to face life’s challenges. In essence, therapy is not just about feeling better but becoming more resilient and brave to address the unknown by daring to heal your past.

FAQs

  • The foundation of the therapy is the therapeutic relationship itself, and studies show that a strong relationship with your therapist is what impacts therapy’s success the most. It’s essential you feel that your therapist is genuinely caring (by being supportive while also challenging you), authentic and not judgemental. Without this foundation, it limits what is discussed and explored in therapy, leading to frustration, resistance to explore unconscious patterns, and not making progress.

  • In addition to person-centred therapy, depending on your specific needs I may use interventions based on Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

  • This depends on your specific therapeutic needs and your current level of distress, but it often takes minimum a year, meeting about every two weeks. If there is more crisis and instability in your life, it may require meeting more frequently and for a longer period of time.

  • If your insurance provider covers psychotherapy specifically, I will be covered if you are based in Ontario. Psychotherapy is not the same as social work or psychological services coverage, so be sure to check with your insurance provider on your specific plan.

I can also provide psychological services under the clinical supervision of a psychologist. If you require psychological services, please email me for more details as this will require undergoing psychological assessment.

  • My hourly rate for psychotherapy & psychological services sessions is $160/hour, and we meet for a full 60 minutes.

  • At the moment, I am offering virtual sessions only (I will eventually allow for in-person sessions at my home in Bruce County, Ontario, so stay tuned!).

When you book a session with me, you are registered as a client through a software program I use called Jane which has integrated videoconference. Approximately one hour before our virtual session, you are sent an automatic email from Jane to securely connect.
